More kids
We are expecting Grandchild #4 and #5. I wonder if there's a girl in the oven somewhere? In the McMillan family, you really have to be patient for girls! Amalie and Nick will have no more arms/hands to hang onto their children as they will be outnumbered in April! I remember the feeling that there was no longer one for Lyle and one for me to hang onto. We are excited to see what color this baby turns out to be! That's another thing about the McMillans. You get all kinds of combinations of beautiful people. We have blondes, blue eyes, green eyes, hazel eyes, brunettes, and in between hair colors. We can't wait to see what kind of combination Jake and Wendy have. She's a redhead and he has hazel eyes. Stay tuned!
kids
I almost got emotional sending my last child to preschool but she only has a 3 hour day so I decided to save the emotion for next year when she actually does a full day at school in Kindergarten. I applied her for Kamehameha and am considering withdrawing her application. It's been quite a week for the school. Attending Open House reminded me that yes, they do focus on giving the kids a good education and prepare them for college. There's a bad egg or two in every school.
Jaren-really want to send this talented child to Punahou but he objects vehemently. I think his Kamehameha siblings would agree! Imua!
Alyssa-wow we really have to find the right fit for her. We are prayerful and thoughtful about where to apply her. But after the Kamehameha Open House, I'm commited to finding a private school that would be good for her. Worried about it already and she has just begun the 6th grade!

My life
I received several tags on FB for 25 things. After reading others, I decided my life was quite boring and uninteresting and would not list my 25 random things. so there!
candlelight
For the past 2 weeks I've been lighting a scented candle or two right before I lay my head on my pillow and go to sleep. It has been so relaxing. I received some girly gifts from the girls in my family that I really enjoy using. loofa sponge with scented bath washes, oils, lotions, etc. Sometimes I bathe by candlelight. trying to save on the elec bill? NO! Just enjoying the relaxing atmosphere it creates
2009 MOY
I've been in an organization called American Mothers, Inc for the last 14 years. wow! that was fast. kinda, sorta. tonight we met and interviewed the new 2009 Mother of the Year, Gayle Araki and the new Young MOther of the Year, Joselyn Akana. They are two amazing moms. there were 24 of us in attendance, past MOYs and Young Mothers of the Year and I realized how much my association with these energetic, loving mothers has helped me grow. Lyle enjoyed socializing with the husbands and especially playing his ukulele and singing for us. We had a potluck dinner and then the interviews. Can't wait for the Mother of the Year Honor Banquet on march 14!
blogging
this is supposed to be like a journal. Since no one reads my blogs I can get a bit personal. I am a mother who worked really hard to raise the kids right. Well, to the ability that I had. Apparently I fell far short! I had to lower my expectations for some and now I am able to accept their choices and appreciate it when they can be responsible adults. I read a great article in the Ensign called To Perfection. I wanted to raise them perfectly and have a perfect marriage. Kind of hard to do when we are all imperfect beings. Go read the article and you'll see what I mean. In this race of life to eternal life, we are only racing ourselves and no one else. There are many versions of "success". For example, one of my children actually has held a job for more than 3 months. He checks in to work on time (most of the time) and actually rushes to get there if he gets up late. He saved his own money to buy a laptop. I don't like what he uses it for but still he disciplined himself to save the cash for it! That's HUGE for him!!! Most of us assume this is Responsibility 101. For this child, he had to do the below 100 level courses just to get up to par after having been out of high school for more than 8 years! But for him, when I don't compare him to other persons his age, he is doing well. In comparison with who he was and who he is now, we are actually moving forward in life!
I will go on about the other kids on a subsequent blog
